A suicide drone launched from Lebanon struck Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s private residence.
What’s the deal: According to the IDF, a drone launched from Lebanon by Hezbollah hit Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s private home in the seaside town of Caesarea early Saturday. Neither Netanyahu nor his wife were at home at the time, and no injuries were reported. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stated that this drone was one of three launched from Lebanon, with the other two being shot down. The explosion occurred without any warning sirens being triggered, and the military is investigating a failure of the defense system.
Images obtained from Netanyahu’s home showed minimal damage.
Prime Minister reacts: In a statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “The attempt by Iran’s proxy Hezbollah to assassinate me and my wife today was a grave mistake. This will not deter me or the State of Israel from continuing our just war against our enemies in order to secure our future. I say to Iran and its proxies in its axis of evil: Anyone who tries to harm Israel’s citizens will pay a heavy price. We will continue to eliminate the terrorists and those who dispatch them. We will bring our hostages home from Gaza. And we will return our citizens who live on our Northern border safely to their homes. Israel is determined to achieve all our war objectives and change the security reality in our region for generations to come. Together, we will fight, and with God’s help – together, we will win.”
This development comes as Israel prepares for a retaliatory strike against Iran. For the past week, Israel has been considering various options in response to last week’s ballistic missile attack by Iran. Potential targets include Iranian military installations, oil refineries, critical infrastructure, and even its highly prized nuclear program.
