An office in Tempe, Arizona, used by Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign was hit by gunfire on Monday.

What’s the deal: According to officials, no one was present at the time of the shooting, and police are investigating the shooting as a “property crime.” The incident took place days before Harris’s scheduled visit to Arizona. In addition to a headquarters for Harris’s campaign efforts in Arizona, the office also supports the Arizona Democratic Party and its candidates.

Statement from officials: In a statement, Sean McEnerney, who works for the Arizona Democratic party, said, “Overnight, several shots were fired into our Tempe Democratic Party coordinated campaign office. We are grateful to Tempe Police for coming quickly to the scene and are fortunate no one was present or injured.”

Tempe police comment: In a statement, Tempe police said, “We can confirm that on 9/23/24, what appears to be damage from gunfire at  a DNC Campaign Office was discovered.” They continued, “The Mesa Forensic Unit was on scene as they assist Tempe PD with forensic services.”
