A Russian government spokesman has said that Russia sees Vice President Kamala Harris as more predictable than former President Donald Trump.

What’s the deal: During an interview with a Russian journalist who’s been accused of being controlled by the Kremlin, Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, “We have no candidate. But, of course, the Democrats are more predictable. And what Putin said about Biden’s predictability applies to almost all Democrats, including Ms. Harris.”

Downplays Trump: Peskov also downplayed previous claims made by former president Donald Trump that he could end the war between Russia and Ukraine quickly. Peskov said, “I don’t think there is a magic wand. Nothing can be done within 24 hours. If we assume that the next US president makes a statement during his inauguration speech that the US … stops its support for Ukraine, stops all military aid programs and calls on the parties to sit down at the negotiating table, then, in general, by the morning, something in someone’s brain will change, especially in Kyiv. You can imagine it hypothetically, but this is from the realm of fantasy.”

Peskov’s comments come just 65 days before the US presidential election, amid warnings from top US officials and tech giants like Microsoft, Google, and Meta about potential Russian interference. In the past, Russia employed tactics such as spreading misinformation and amplifying data and documents obtained through state-sponsored hacking. Although Russian officials initially denied meddling in the 2016 elections, the late Yevgeny Prigozhin (the former Wagner group leader who was wanted by the FBI for interfering in those elections) admitted his involvement last year.
