The US State Department has approved a large sale of Patriot missiles to Germany.
What’s the deal: The United States has announced a defense deal to supply Germany with 600 Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) missiles, valued at around $5 billion. The package also includes 10 test missiles.

Digging Deeper: Germany has ramped up its defense spending in response to the conflict in Ukraine, focusing on strengthening its air and missile defense systems. In 2023, the country has allocated over $2.4 billion to acquire Patriot missile systems.
The decision to sell Germany the missiles now is with Congress, which must review and approve the $5 billion deal for 600 Patriot missiles.
