According to Los Angeles County prosecutors, the individual arrested after breaking into the home of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass was “targeting” her.
Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón has confirmed that the suspect, identified as Ephraim Matthew Hunter, and added, “We believe that he was targeting the mayor. We are going on the assumption that he knew that it was her residence.”
The incident occurred early Sunday morning when Hunter allegedly broke a window to enter Getty House, the mayor’s official residence. The Los Angeles Police Department responded quickly to the scene and said that Mayor Bass and her family had been unharmed by the incident.
In addition to breaking and entering, Hunter has been charged with a felony count of first-degree residential burglary and a felony count of vandalism. In a statement, the Los Angeles County Public Defenders office said, “We will ensure that Mr. Hunter receives a fair and robust defense and a full investigation into the circumstances which led to the accusations against him.”
