Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has again called on former President Donald Trump to visit Ukraine after reports circulated that he would pressure Ukraine to cede land to Russia if he returns to the White House.

In an interview with Axel Springer media on Tuesday, Zelensky revealed that he has reached out to Trump via intermediaries, urging him to witness firsthand the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia. Trump has shown interest but remains non-committal about the visit, despite previously claiming he could “solve” the war in a day if re-elected without elaborating on his approach.

Zelensky’s invitations to Trump come in the wake of his assertions last March, where he boasted of a quick solution to the war without providing specifics. This has led Zelensky to repeatedly extend an offer to Trump to visit Kyiv and other significant conflict zones within Ukraine, aiming to foster a direct understanding of the situation. Over the weekend, The Washington Post highlighted Trump’s private comments suggesting he could halt Russia’s aggression by urging Ukraine to relinquish territories currently under Russian control, including Crimea and parts of the Donbas region.

Responding to Trump’s outlined strategy, Zelensky said, “If the deal is that we just give up our territories, and that’s the idea behind it, then it’s a very primitive idea. I need very strong arguments. I don’t need a fantastic idea, I need a real idea, because people’s lives are at stake.”

This all comes as Zelensky has reiterated calls for additional US aid, warning of dire consequences for Ukraine and potentially other nations if American lawmakers fail to approve necessary funding.
