An Israeli airstrike has killed three sons and three grandchildren of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.
The strike was reported by the Hamas-affiliated Shehab news agency, stating that the strike targeted a civilian vehicle near the Shati refugee camp in Gaza City. Haniyeh confirmed the deaths, describing the action as conducted in “the spirit of revenge and murder.”
The Hamas-run media office and Al-Aqsa TV station echoed the reports, emphasizing that the strike hit civilians. Despite the strike, Haniyeh mentioned that these events would not change Hamas’s position in the ongoing ceasefire discussions. He added that the timing of this strike, amid peace talks and during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, would not deter their stance.
This comes as President Biden has voiced concerns over Israel’s military strategy in Gaza. He advocated for an immediate ceasefire and called for Israel to ensure unrestricted access to essential food and medical supplies for Gaza’s residents.
