Officials in Baltimore have announced the recovery of a missing construction worker’s body, identified as Maynor Yasir Suazo-Sandoval. The discovery was made after the wreckage of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which collapsed last week.
The Unified Command, comprising the US Coast Guard and various Maryland state agencies, disclosed that its dive teams located Suazo-Sandoval’s remains on Friday morning. In a statement, they said, “Salvage dive teams located what they believed to be the missing construction worker and notified the Maryland Department of State Police. Maryland State Police Underwater Recovery Team deployed in coordination with dive teams from allied law enforcement partners and recovered Suazo-Sandoval.”

Colonel Roland L. Butler, Jr., the superintendent of the Maryland Department of State Police, said, “There are families still waiting to hear if we have found their loved one. I can promise you, we are fully committed to finding closure for each of these families.” He added, “The collapse of the Key Bridge is undoubtedly one of the most challenging tragedies we have faced as a law enforcement agency. Along with our local, state and federal public safety partners, we will not give up.”
This all comes after President Biden visited Baltimore and addressed the impact of the collapse, promising unwavering support for the city’s recovery efforts. While speaking at the site, he said, “I’m here to say, your nation has your back. And I mean it. Your nation has your back. The damage is devastating and our hearts are still breaking.”
