Seven passengers were hospitalized due to injuries sustained from turbulence on a flight from Israel to Newark, New Jersey.
The flight, United Flight 85, encountered severe turbulence and high winds, prompting an emergency landing at Stewart International Airport in New Windsor, New York.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said the landing was due to a “passenger medical emergency.” In response, the FAA confirmed that it has launched an investigation into the incident. According to New Windsor EMS Chief Michael Bigg, the passengers experienced various symptoms, including nausea, motion sickness, and chest pain, which led to their hospitalization in New York.
United Airlines has confirmed the diversion of Flight 85, citing the extreme wind conditions at Newark as the cause. The airline also confirmed that one passenger was removed from the plane due to a medical issue, while others received medical attention for symptoms consistent with motion sickness. The aircraft later continued its journey to Newark after refueling.
