Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has announced her decision to deploy state National Guard troops to assist Texas in addressing the influx of migrants at the US-Mexico border.

In a statement, Governor Sanders said, “President Biden opened our southern border to an invasion of illegal immigrants, drugs, and human trafficking and is now criticizing Texas for stepping up where his administration has failed. I’ve seen the crisis our President created firsthand, and I know the incredible men and women of the Arkansas Guard can help supplement Texas’ efforts to keep our border secure and our states safe.”

Approximately 40 members of the Arkansas National Guard are scheduled to be sent to Texas from April 1 through May 30, to aid in Governor Greg Abbott’s border security initiatives. This deployment is part of a broader trend of states lending support to one another, with Sanders having previously sent around 80 members to the border last summer.

Major General Jonathan Stubbs also commented on the announcement, saying, “The Arkansas National Guard has a rich history of helping neighboring states in a crisis.”
