The United States conducted a targeted strike in Iraq, eliminating a senior commander of the Iranian-backed militia group Kata’ib Hezbollah, accused of planning attacks against American troops.
This operation, executed at approximately 9:30 p.m. local time, was confirmed by the US Central Command (CENTCOM), emphasizing the US’s commitment to protecting its personnel. CENTCOM assured that the strike, which occurred in a busy area of eastern Baghdad, resulted in no civilian casualties or collateral damage.
CENTCOM’s statement highlighted the precision of the strike, which killed not only the targeted commander, identified in reports as “Abu Bakr” al-Saadi but also two other officials from Kataib Hezbollah.
This action is part of a broader US strategy to counter Iranian-backed militia groups in the region, following a recent pattern of military engagements, including last week’s extensive bombings in response to the death of three American troops in Jordan, attributed to Iranian proxies.
