Iran has labeled the recent US airstrikes in Iraq and Syria as a “strategic error,” asserting they exacerbate tensions in a region already destabilized by Israel’s actions in Gaza.
Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Nasser Kanaani, criticized these actions, stating, “The US attacks were a violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq and Syria, international law, and a clear violation of the United Nations Charter.”

Kanaani further added that the US operations align with the objectives of the “Zionist regime,” implying that such military interventions deepen US involvement in regional conflicts and distract from Israel’s operations in Gaza. He warned, “The continuation of such adventures is a threat to regional and international peace and security,” urging international bodies to halt the crisis’s escalation.
The statement from Iran also attributed the ongoing tension to “the occupation by the Israeli regime” and called for addressing the root cause of the crisis to restore stability in the Middle East.
The strikes by the United States come after a drone attack in Jordan that killed three American soldiers. Despite criticism of a delayed response, President Joe Biden stated a US military response would occur “at times and places of our choosing.” The US strikes notably avoided direct engagement with Iran or its high-ranking military officials.
