Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has requested US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to leverage American influence to cease Israeli military operations in Gaza and the West Bank. This appeal was made during a call on Sunday, as Turkey continues to advocate for a two-state solution and denounces Israel’s actions, urging a complete ceasefire and accountability for Israeli leaders in international courts.

Fidan’s conversation with Blinken emphasized the deteriorating situation in Gaza and the West Bank due to Israeli military operations. According to a source speaking to Al Jazeera, “Fidan emphasized the need for Israel to be made to sit at the (negotiating) table after a full ceasefire is achieved, in order to start a process aimed at realizing a fair and lasting peace based on a two-state solution.”
The dialogue between Fidan and Blinken also covered a range of bilateral issues, including Sweden’s NATO membership bid, still pending ratification by the Turkish parliament, and Turkey’s request to purchase F-16 fighter jets from the United States.
The call reportedly originated from Blinken’s request, underlining the ongoing collaboration between the two nations despite differences over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and other regional matters.
