Pete Arredondo, the Uvalde schools police chief (and city council member), has missed a second city council meeting following a mass shooting that killed 21 people (including 19 children).

Uvalde city council members hold a meeting

Arredondo’s no-show at the city council meeting comes as parents continue to demand answers about the police response to the Robb Elementary School shooting.

Previously, Arredondo requested a “leave of absence from future council meetings,” which angered the victims’ families and was ultimately denied at the last meeting.

According to the city charter, if Arredondo fails to attend the next city council meeting (scheduled for July 12th), the city council can vote to remove him.

This all comes after Arredondo was placed on paid administrative leave from the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District following weeks of anger and frustration from residents.
