President Joe Biden downplayed the significance of former President Donald Trump’s recent victory in the Iowa GOP primary, suggesting that the win does not necessarily indicate broader support.
During a press conference on Thursday, Biden said, “I don’t think Iowa means anything. The president got 50-some-thousand votes, the lowest number of votes anybody who’s won got. You know, this idea that he’s going to run away β he can think anyway he wants, let him make that judgement.”
Trump, who is leading the race for the Republican presidential nomination, secured approximately 51% of the votes in the Iowa caucuses.
Biden’s comments were made as he departed for North Carolina, a critical battleground state won by Trump in both the 2020 and 2016 elections.
