Israel has warned Iranian civilians to avoid using trains and railway infrastructure nationwide due to anticipated military strikes.
Getting into it: The Israel Defense Forces issued what it described as an “urgent warning” to civilians across Iran, specifically warning against any use of the country’s rail system during a defined, hours-long risk window. In a statement delivered in Persian by spokesperson Avichay Adraee, he said, “For your safety, we ask you not to use trains across Iran from this moment until 9 p.m. Iran time,” adding that “being present on trains or near railways puts your lives at risk.”
A similar message from Lt. Col. Kamal Penhasi stressed that “your presence on trains and near railway lines endangers your life,” underscoring both the seriousness and the unusually specific timing of the advisory.
The warning’s nationwide scope is particularly notable given the size and importance of Iran’s rail network, which spans the country and is widely used by civilians.
This all comes after Israel carried out a series of strikes targeting Iran’s petrochemical infrastructure, hitting facilities described by Israeli officials as central to both the country’s economy and its military supply chain. According to the IDF and Defense Minister Katz, key sites (including major complexes tied to production and export) were “taken out of use,” with one of the largest facilities in southern Iran left non-operational.
These sites are believed to play a significant role in producing materials used in fuels, industrial chemicals, and components linked to weapons manufacturing.
More to come.
