President Trump has announced that the US military secretly moved more than 100 million barrels of oil through the Strait of Hormuz.

Getting into it: In Oval Office remarks and a Truth Social post Wednesday, Trump said he had directed the military last month to run a “secret mission” supporting oil tankers and commercial ships through the strait, claiming the effort had pushed more than 100 million barrels and over 200 ships through the waterway. He cast it as proof that the US, “not Iran,” controls the strait. He added, “It’s over for Iran,” and recounted “taking out” 22 ships at night because Iran “don’t have any radar” after US strikes.

Trump also credited the mission with keeping oil around $85 to $90 a barrel rather than letting it surge past $250.

Despite Trump’s statement, the New York Times had previously reported the effort late last month (we wrote about it here), when about 70 ships had been guided through.

This all comes as US Central Command says it is protecting ships from Iranian attack, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio telling Congress “if they don’t shoot at those ships, we don’t shoot” and Energy Secretary Chris Wright confirming the military is being used to boost oil flows.
