Israel has officially killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a joint US-Israeli airstrike on Tehran.

Some shit you should know before you dig in: Today, the United States and Israel kicked off a sweeping joint military campaign against Iran, with US forces launching what the Pentagon described as major combat operations called Operation Epic Fury, aimed at striking strategic Iranian military infrastructure by air and sea and crushing what the US called imminent threats from Tehran. Israel’s assault, which it called Operation Lion’s Roar, concentrated on decapitating Iranian leadership and its security apparatus, targeting senior commanders and intelligence units across the country, including air defenses and high-value political targets. In response to the bombardment, Iran launched a wave of retaliatory missiles and drone attacks toward US and Israeli positions throughout the Middle East.

What’s going on now: First reported by Israeli media outlets and later echoed by multiple US-based news organizations citing senior Israeli officials, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed when Israeli warplanes struck his heavily fortified home in Tehran. The strike reportedly flattened large portions of the complex, with satellite imagery showing extensive structural collapse and burn patterns consistent with deep-penetration munitions. Analysts suggested that bunker-buster bombs may have been used to reach hardened underground sections of the site. Israeli sources said the compound, believed to include protected rooms and reinforced shelters, was directly targeted as part of the broader effort to dismantle Iran’s command structure.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said there were “many signs” that Khamenei was no longer alive following the airstrikes, noting that there had been no communication from the Supreme Leader since the compound was hit. A senior Israeli government source later claimed that Khamenei’s body had been recovered from the rubble of his residence. Additional reports stated that both President Donald Trump and Netanyahu were shown photographic evidence purportedly confirming his death, though neither government has publicly released the images.

Beyond Khamenei, multiple reports indicated that others inside or near the compound were killed in the strike, including members of his extended family and senior aides.
