Members of Hezbollah are holding direct meetings with Iranian Revolutionary Guard officers amid reports that the group may join a broader military confrontation against Israel if Iran is attacked.
Getting into it: First reported by multiple Israeli news outlets citing regional and security sources, the reports say officers from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps have effectively taken a hands-on role in directing Hezbollah’s operational planning in Lebanon. According to those sources, some IRGC personnel were already stationed in the country, while others recently arrived amid escalating tensions surrounding Iran and the possibility of US or Israeli military action. The officers are reportedly overseeing efforts to restore Hezbollah’s capabilities following the 14-month conflict that ended in the November 2024 ceasefire.
Israeli outlets further cited assessments that IRGC officers met with members of Hezbollah’s missile regiments in the Bekaa Valley shortly before Israeli airstrikes targeted those same positions on Friday. According to the IDF, the strikes hit three command centers belonging to Hezbollah’s missile force in the Baalbek area, eliminating what it described as a “large number” of operatives who were allegedly accelerating force build-up and planning rocket and missile fire toward Israel.
Lebanese sources reported that at least 10 people were killed and around 50 wounded, while Hezbollah confirmed that eight of its fighters were among the dead, including senior commander Hussein Mohammed Yaghi.
