President Donald Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social, was temporarily taken offline following a cyberattack claimed by an Iran-aligned hacking group.
Getting into it: The cyberattack, carried out by the Iran-aligned hacking collective known as the 313 Team, temporarily disrupted access to Truth Social on Saturday night. The group launched a Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack, a tactic that floods servers with traffic to overload systems and render them unusable. The outage occurred shortly after 7:46 PM ET, when Trump used the platform to announce a US airstrike on three of Iran’s nuclear facilities—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.

What’s going on now: In an announcement, Senators Jon Husted (R-OH), Jacky Rosen (D-NV), and Pete Ricketts (R-NE) introduced the “No DeepSeek on Government Devices Act,” a bipartisan bill aimed at banning the Chinese AI chatbot DeepSeek from US government devices. The legislation seeks to prevent potential national security threats posed by the AI platform, which lawmakers argue could be exploited by the Chinese Communist Party for data collection and disinformation campaigns. If passed, the bill would grant the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director the authority to remove DeepSeek from government systems.
In a post on Telegram and other messaging platforms, the 313 Team framed the Truth Social attack as a direct response to the US strikes, calling it a “symbolic shutdown of the enemy’s propaganda machine.”
The 313 Team is a relatively new but increasingly active player within a broader coalition of pro-Iranian, pro-Russian, and pro-Palestinian hacktivist groups. These loosely affiliated cyber actors are known for targeting government agencies, public infrastructure, and technology companies across the Middle East and beyond.
