The United States has officially unveiled a new investor visa initiative (dubbed the “Trump Card”) that offers wealthy foreigners permanent residency in exchange for a $5 million investment.

Getting into it: The website, which can be found at trumpcard.gov, serves as the official registration portal for those interested in applying for the newly proposedTrump Cardinvestor visa program. Applicants are asked to provide their name, location, and email in order to receive a notification once enrollment becomes available. The site identifies itself as anofficial government site, though it provides no information on the application process, eligibility requirements, or when the program will actually launch.

Trump claims the program will attract wealthy individuals who are ready to spend heavily, contribute to the US economy, and create jobs. According to Trump and his administration, the $5 million buy-in will not only grant permanent residency and a path to citizenship but also generate significant revenue for the US government. Trump has suggested that the program could result in up to 1 million units sold, potentially raising $5 trillion to start paying down the national debt.

Trump has also argued that the program does not require Congressional approval since it merely accelerates existing immigration benefits rather than creating new ones.

The Trump Card will be an official replacement for the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program, a visa route created in 1990 that grants green cards to foreign nationals who invest between $800,000 and $1.05 million in a US business. Trump and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick have criticized the EB-5 as “poorly run” and outdated, suggesting that the Trump Card will modernize and streamline the process, albeit with a much higher investment threshold and fewer procedural details currently available to the public.
