The former running mate of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (RFK) has warned Senate lawmakers that she will fund challengers against those who vote against his nomination.

Some shit you should know before you read: As RFK testifies before the Senate, a coordinated effort to derail his nomination is underway, led by lobbyists tied to Big Pharma, agriculture, and major food/ beverage manufacturers, who view his leadership as a threat to their interests. Progressive advocacy groups have also mobilized against him, citing concerns over his past statements on reproductive rights and broader health policies. Additionally, a conservative organization funded by former Vice President Mike Pence is working to block his confirmation, arguing that his vague stance on abortion is unacceptable to the Republican base. This unusual alliance of corporate lobbyists, progressive activists, and conservative operatives has led some to believe that RFK will not be confirmed as the next Secretary of HHS.

What’s going on now: Last night before RFK Jr. was set to testify, Nicole Shanahan took to social media to directly warn US senators, making it clear that she would personally fund primary challengers against any lawmaker who voted against his confirmation. She specifically called out Democratic Senators Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff, reminding them that she had donated heavily to their campaigns in 2020. “The two candidates I helped elect… please know I will be watching your votes very closely,” she warned.

Addressing a bipartisan group of senators, including Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham, Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, Bernie Sanders, and Cory Booker, she made her stance even clearer: “If you vote against him, I will personally fund challengers to primary you in your next election, and I will enlist hundreds of thousands to join me.”

Shanahan, a billionaire philanthropist and tech attorney, has amassed her wealth through her career in Silicon Valley and her divorce settlement from Google co-founder Sergey Brin. She co-founded ClearAccessIP, a legal tech startup that was later acquired, and has since invested heavily in biotech, artificial intelligence, and philanthropy. Her estimated net worth exceeds $1 billion.
