Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has offered to assist California as the state battles devastating wildfires in Los Angeles County.

Some shit you should know before you read: Yesterday, Southern California faced was impacted by multiple fast-moving fires fueled by dry conditions and powerful winds that tore through the region. The Palisades Fire has burned over 15,832 acres, destroying more than 1,200 structures, while the Eaton Fire expanded rapidly to 10,600 acres. Other fires, including the Hurst Fire and Woodley Fire, have affected 700 and 30 acres, with all four fires at 0% containment. These wildfires have forced the mandatory evacuation of over 80,000 residents and caused power outages for nearly 400,000 customers.

Florida’s offer: In a statement on X, Governor DeSantis expressed solidarity with those affected by the California wildfires and offered Florida’s assistance in their recovery efforts. “Our prayers are with everyone affected by the horrific fires in Southern California,” he wrote. “When disaster strikes, we must come together to help our fellow Americans in any way we can. The state of Florida has offered help to assist the people of California in responding to these fires and in rebuilding communities that have been devastated.”

Florida has extensive resources to combat wildfires, leveraging a combination of skilled personnel, advanced equipment, and strategic planning honed through years of managing natural disasters like Hurricanes. The state’s Division of Forestry maintains a fleet of firefighting aircraft, including helicopters and fixed-wing planes equipped for aerial water drops, along with specialized bulldozers and fire engines designed for navigating dense vegetation and challenging terrains.

Florida also trains and deploys highly skilled wildfire management teams capable of coordinating large-scale responses in extreme conditions. Additionally, the state has developed interagency collaborations, ensuring that local, state, and federal resources can be mobilized efficiently when needed.

At the present moment, it remains unclear whether California Governor Gavin Newsom has accepted Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s offer of assistance. Despite this, the Los Angeles Fire Department has reported a severe shortage of firefighters and critical resources, leaving crews stretched thin as they battle the relentless flames. Emergency scanners have indicated that firefighters are understaffed and need additional personnel and equipment.
