The Governor of New Jersey has called on President Biden to provide more assistance in addressing the increasing number of mysterious “drone” sightings across the state.
Some shit you should know before you read: Over the last few weeks, mysterious “drone” sightings have been reported across New Jersey, as well as in neighboring states like Maryland and New York, and even at a US air base in Germany. These large drones, often seen flying at night, have alarmed residents and drawn attention from local and federal authorities. Despite ongoing investigations, the Pentagon has offered mixed messages, stating that while they don’t know what these drones are, there is no evidence linking them to foreign adversaries or posing national security threats.

What’s going on now: In a letter addressed to President Biden, Governor Phil Murphy requested additional federal resources to address the ongoing drone sightings in New Jersey. He wrote, “While I am sincerely grateful for your administration’s leadership in addressing this concerning issue, it has become apparent that more resources are needed to fully understand what is behind this activity.” He added, “New Jersey residents deserve more concrete information about these UAS sightings and what is causing them. The continued reporting of UAS activity has raised more questions than answers and prompted an outcropping of conspiracy theories on social media and other online platforms.”
Former Governor speaks up: In addition to Governor Murphy, Former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan expressed his concerns after witnessing drone activity near his home in Davidsonville, Maryland. On X he wrote, “Last night, beginning at around 9:45 pm, I personally witnessed (and videoed) what appeared to be dozens of large drones in the sky above my residence.” Hogan said the drones were near his home for roughly 45 minutes. He also criticized the government’s response, noting that they had the “ability to track these from their point of origin but has mounted a negligent response.”

This all comes as the Pentagon and the White House continue to downplay the mysterious drone sightings. Earlier this week, Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said there is no evidence that the drones are connected to a foreign adversary or pose a national security threat, though she noted that their origins remain unidentified. Similarly, White House national security spokesperson John Kirby said that “we haven’t seen any indication thus far that there’s a public safety risk.”
