Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has pushed back on claims by Ohio Senator JD Vance of voter fraud occurring in his state.
Let’s bring you up to speed: Earlier this week, videos circulated on social media showing Pennsylvania voters being turned away from voting. The voters were reportedly turned away before the 5 PM cutoff, with local officials citing concerns over long lines potentially extending past the deadline. In response, Vance criticized the situation, stating, “This is illegal… @JoshShapiro should do something about these operatives in his own party depriving people of their right to vote. If he doesn’t, he’s complicit in voter fraud.”

Shapiro responds: While appearing on Fox News, Governor Shapiro said, “Yeah, that’s just more bullshit from J.D. Vance. Remember, Bret, our system is run by Republican and Democratic clerks of elections in our 67 counties. It’s overseen by my secretary of state, Bret, who is a Republican… I think everybody needs to take a deep breath and understand that it is our fellow Pennsylvanians who are running these elections, and we will, again, have a free and fair, safe and secure election.“
Shapiro also noted that the issue had been “resolved so a legal, eligible voter could be counted in this election.” He added that the Trump campaign acknowledged “the work that myself and Secretary [Al] Schmidt are doing here in Pennsylvania.”
This comes as Pennsylvania remains one of the most critical battleground states in the upcoming election, with some arguing it could ultimately decide the presidency. For decades, Pennsylvania has swung between Democratic and Republican candidates. Back in 2016, Trump won the state, and in 2020, Biden carried the state. Attached is the latest battleground polling in the state, showing Trump up by an average of 0.4 points.
