The Netherlands has confirmed they are in the process of delivering 24 F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.

What’s the deal: According to Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans, the Netherlands has officially begun delivering F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, with the first aircraft already transferred as part of a total commitment of 24 jets. In addition to the jets, the Netherlands will provide an undisclosed amount of air-to-air missiles compatible with the F-16s and roughly $520 million to fund additional weapons and maintenance needs for the jets.

Netherlands Delivers First F 16 Fighter Jets To Ukraine Says Defence Minister

In a statement, Defense Minister Brekelmans said, “For the first time, I can officially announce that the first Dutch F-16s have been delivered to Ukraine. This is urgently needed. In Kharkiv, I saw the damage from Russian airstrikes and heard frequent air raid alarms. The rest of the 24 jets will follow in the coming months.”

Drones: In addition to the F-16s, the Netherlands has committed roughly $440 million to co-develop advanced drones with Ukraine. These drones will be designed for use across various domains, including air, land, and sea. According to the government, half of the production will take place in the Netherlands.

This comes as the Netherlands has provided substantial military support to Ukraine. In addition to F-16s, the Netherlands has provided over 2,000 Panzerhaubitze howitzers, 353 YPR-765 infantry fighting vehicles, 100 Leopard 1 tanks, 14 Leopard 2A4 tanks, and Patriot air-defense systems.
