A deadly Israeli airstrike on a school in Gaza City has killed over 100 civilians.

What’s the deal: On Saturday, an Israeli airstrike targeted the al-Tabin school in Gaza City, which was being used as a shelter for displaced Palestinians, resulting in the deaths of over 100 people and leaving many others injured. The attack was carried out using a U.S.-made GBU-39 small-diameter bomb, according to reports confirmed by CNN.

What Israel is saying: According to the IDF and Shin Bet, they “targeted terrorists operating in a Hamas command and control center embedded within the Al-Taabin school complex.” Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani said, “The compound, and the mosque that was struck within it, served as an active Hamas and Islamic Jihad military facility.”

What Hamas is saying: In a statement following the strike, a spokesman for Hamas said, “The massacre of the Al-Tabin school in the Daraj neighborhood is a continuation of the Nazi-Zionist genocide against our people, and the US administration is complicit in such crimes. The enemy army fabricates pretexts to target civilians, schools, hospitals, and tents of the displaced people, all of which are flimsy pretexts and blatant lies to justify its crimes.”
