Iranian state television aired a video over the weekend explicitly threatening Barron Trump, the president’s 20-year-old son, with reports of a $10 million bounty attached, and the Secret Service is now reviewing it.

Some shit you should know before you dig in: Threats against Trump from Iranian state and IRGC-linked media are not new. US prosecutors said in 2024 that Tehran had assigned someone to draw up a plan for killing him, and they have brought charges against Revolutionary Guard associates over a plot targeting John Bolton, Trump’s former national security adviser. The rhetoric escalated after US-Israeli strikes killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on Feb. 28. Some state media figures have framed the threats around qisas, an Islamic legal doctrine that permits a killing to be answered in kind. Tasnim, an IRGC-affiliated agency, ran a video in late July titled “Where and how is Melania Trump accessible?” A Tehran billboard showed Trump in a coffin with “We will kill Trump” in English, and another video claimed to lay out the routes his motorcade takes in Florida and New York.

What’s going on now: The Secret Service has acknowledged it is looking into a video just under three minutes long that aired over the weekend on Channel 3 of IRIB, Iran’s state broadcaster. The video opens on an English-language graphic that reads, “Where to kill Barron Trump?!” and claims he is “fully monitored,” showing where he goes to school, the vehicles that escort him, and where his Secret Service agents position themselves around him.

The video claims to have obtained leaked data and identified Barron’s Xbox, FIFA, and Discord accounts, along with accounts belonging to two named classmates. It alleges a woman slipped through his security, met with him one on one, and handed what she learned to the people who made the video. It also says he talks and messages through Xbox where his protection cannot hear it. It closes with, “This is just the beginning! Barron Trump, wait for us!” The narrator says plenty of people would line up for the $10 million.

In a statement, the Secret Service said it is “aware of the video and investigates anything that can be perceived as a threat toward our protectees. Out of concern for operational security, we do not discuss matters of protective intelligence.” A federal law enforcement source told CNN the video is part of a broader campaign out of Iran aimed at Trump and his family. Some of those videos have laid out where family members were going and how someone might kill them.

Trump has taken the threats seriously himself. Speaking at the NATO summit in Turkey in July, he said, “I’m on whatever list… so far, I guess I’ve been a bit lucky, but maybe that doesn’t last very long. These are evil, sick people.”
