Former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang has confirmed he reached out to Elon Musk to propose forming a new political party after Musk indicated his interest in creating a third party.
Some shit you should know before you read: If you’re unaware, the fallout between Elon Musk and President Donald Trump has escalated after Musk, once a major donor and informal advisor to Trump, publicly turned on the former president by denouncing the GOP’s “Big Beautiful Bill” as a “disgusting abomination” and accusing Trump of being named in the Jeffrey Epstein files, calling for his impeachment, and even suggesting Trump would have lost the 2024 election without his financial backing. In response, Trump lashed out, calling Musk “crazy,” threatening to cancel federal contracts for Musk’s companies, and warning of “serious consequences” if Musk backed Democratic candidates. Following these threats, Musk appeared to tone down his rhetoric.

What’s going on now: In a notable development, Andrew Yang confirmed to Politico Magazine that he has reached out to Elon Musk with a proposal to collaborate on forming a new political party. Yang, the founder of the Forward Party, said he and several mutual friends had attempted to connect with Musk following the billionaire’s online poll suggesting it was time to create a political movement representing the 80% of Americans who feel politically homeless.
Although Musk has yet to respond, Yang said he understands the delay, adding that Musk has the kind of outsider influence, resources, and innovative mindset needed to disrupt the two-party system. He noted that the fastest-growing political affiliation in the country is now independents, and he believes the moment is ripe for a serious third-party challenge, particularly one supported by someone with Musk’s reach and capital.
