US Central Command has confirmed that the Houthi rebels in Yemen launched an anti-ship ballistic missile at the US-owned container ship M/V Gibraltar Eagle.

British Maritime Security firm Ambrey reported that the missile strike occurred while the ship was transiting near Yemen’s port of Aden. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency corroborated this report, noting the missile struck from above approximately 95 nautical miles southeast of Aden. Ambrey detailed that out of three missiles launched by the Houthis, one successfully hit the bulk carrier, causing a fire in a hold but leaving the ship seaworthy and without any injuries onboard.

Alert Yemen

Despite the attack, no injuries or significant damage were reported. Eagle Bulk Shipping, the US-based owner of the vessel, has yet to respond to requests for comments on the incident.

The Houthis, who control much of Yemen’s Red Sea coast, have been targeting commercial ships in the region, asserting their actions support Palestinians and Hamas in Gaza. This attack follows a pattern of Houthi aggression against vessels they claim are linked to Israel or bound for Israeli ports. In retaliation, US and British forces recently executed multiple air and sea strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen.
