Representative Tim Burchett (R-TN) has spoken out about the recent classified briefing on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAPs), commonly referred to as UFOs, stating that it had a moderate impact but significantly energized the House on the subject.
In an interview with NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo, Burchett rated the briefing’s effectiveness as a four out of ten. “I’d say the needle moved … it was bipartisan,” he commented, noting that the diverse attendance included Representatives Jared Moskowitz (D-FL), Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY), and Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL).

A New Mexico State University student took this photo of what he said was a UFO, while photographing land formations for a geology class on Mar. 12, 1967.
The briefing, led by Thomas Monheim, the Intelligence Community Inspector General, aimed to enhance transparency regarding the government’s knowledge about UAPs. Burchett, unable to disclose specific details, mentioned to Cuomo that the session lent “some validity to what’s been said” about UAPs. Lawmakers emerged from the meeting with varying reactions, ranging from frustration due to limited information to increased insight, particularly following a whistleblower’s revealing testimony last summer.

This recent development follows a July hearing where David Grusch, a former military intelligence officer, claimed that the Pentagon and other agencies are concealing information about UAPs, a claim the Defense Department has pushed back on. Burchett, who has previously expressed his belief in extraterrestrial life and accused the government of concealing evidence, noted the promise of future hearings on the matter.
