Iraqi Kurdistan’s counter-terrorism service has announced the interception of an armed drone over Erbil airport, where US and other international forces are stationed.

The “Islamic Resistance in Iraq” claimed responsibility for the attempted attack, targeting what it referred to as an “occupation base.” Despite the drone’s downing, officials reported no casualties or damage.

This incident marks a continuing trend of heightened tensions in the region, with US and international forces remaining vigilant following numerous attacks on their bases amid the Israel-Hamas conflict. The recent drone strike attempt follows closely on the heels of two similar incidents on Saturday near military bases in northern Iraq

These events have prompted Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani to initiate an investigation in collaboration with Kurdish regional security forces to identify and apprehend those behind the attacks.
