The United Nations General Assembly has passed a resolution calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza.
153 countries voted in favor of the resolution, with only 10 voting against and 23 abstaining. This vote signifies a substantial increase in support compared to a similar resolution proposed on October 27, which garnered 121 votes in favor.
Several countries have altered their positions since the October resolution. Notably, nations such as Albania, Australia, Canada, Cyprus, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Ethiopia, Fiji, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, India, Japan, Latvia, Monaco, Moldova, North Macedonia, Philippines, Poland, San Marino, Serbia, Sweden, Tunisia, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, and Zambia shifted from abstaining or voting against to supporting the resolution.
Others, like Argentina, Equatorial Guinea, Kiribati, Liberia, Malawi, Marshall Islands, and Tonga, changed their votes to abstain or oppose.
Countries like Benin, Burundi, Cambodia, Haiti, Jamaica, Rwanda, the Republic of the Congo, Samoa, Seychelles, and Zambia, which did not vote in October, supported the resolution this time.
