According to a statement released Monday, Ukrainian forces have regained control of eight settlements near Berdiansk and Melitopol over the past two weeks.

Hanna Maliar, the Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister, shared the news on Telegram, reporting the successful operations in the areas of Novodarivka, Levadne, Storozheve, Makarivka, Blahodatne, Lobkove, Neskuchne, and Piatykhatky, conducted by the ‘Tavria’ Operational and Strategic Grouping of Troops.

Maliar also stated that the Tavria troops had moved forward by nearly 4 1/2 miles, reclaiming an area of about 113 square kilometers in southern Ukraine. She detailed the opposing efforts by Russian forces stationed in eastern Ukraine, who attempted to halt the Ukrainian military advance towards Bakhmut. As a result, additional units had been relocated to that region, she stated.

The deputy defense minister added, “The overall intensity of fighting in this direction decreased last week, but the fighting continued – 41 skirmishes took place and our troops advanced deep into the enemy (territory) in several areas.” She claimed that Ukrainian forces had not yielded any ground despite Russia’s continued efforts to advance Lyman, Kupiansk, Avdiivka, and Marinka.

Her remarks follow a recent statement from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that acknowledged Ukrainian troops are making consistent, gradual advances against Russian forces. He made these remarks over a week after declaring that Ukraine is taking defensive and counteroffensive actions against Russia on the front line.

On the other hand, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported intense fighting, particularly in the settlement of Piatykhatky, where they claim to have successfully repelled Ukrainian forces.
